Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka Shakar, one of the American and British sitar artist. She is the youngest female and the first to be awarded the British House of Commons shield. Anoushka Shankar is one of India's rising stars in the sitar. She is Ravi Shankar's pupil as well as his daughter of Ravi Shankar. She was born London in 1982. During her first years she split her time between London New Delhi. At the age of 13 when her first performance was in New Delhi took place. After moving to Encinitas, California in 1999, she was awarded a high-school diploma. Anouskha's career as a recorder and performer is remarkable, even at her age. Her father has been with her to numerous performances over many years. She released her first self-titled album Anourag in the year 1998. The album was titled Live at Carnegie Hall, a Grammy-nominated album a year after. Her career on stage is vast as she has appeared in all of the biggest venues in the world. Anoushka isn't just a performer. She also published Bapi the love of my life in the year 2002. It is a biography that pays tribute to her father Ravi Shankar. In addition, she acted in a the film "Dance Like a Man" in 2003. She played as a Bharat Natyam dancer in Dance Like a Man. Anoushka Shankar's career continues to grow and we can expect to see a lot from her in the years to be. Anoushka was raised in England and spent a lot of her youth in between London and Delhi. Then she moved to California and went to high school there. Anoushka Shankar began her musical studies at the age of nine. Four years later she played her first appearance on the sitar in Delhi during her father's 75th birthday celebration. Anoushka gained a lot of knowledge by traveling around the globe along with her dad. She appeared at Carnegie Hall in her teenage years, and recorded at George Harrison's WOMAD Festival. The House of Commons Shield was presented in her honor by the British Parliament for being the pre-eminent Asian Arts musician. She is the sole female and youngest recipient of this award.
